Abstract
At this time we are celebrating 40 years since the incorporation of nursing as a university education in Spain, a first step to move from a "technical" occupation to a profession. This step is linked to the incorporation of a fundamental role for any profession and for its development: the researcher; culminating this process in 2007, with the entry into force of the degree studies and access to the doctorate within the framework of the European Higher Education Area, being able to develop the highest academic degree in a programme of our own discipline1.
