Abstract

"To talk about nurses is to talk about caring professionals, it is to talk about healthcare excellence, it is to talk about research competence, and of course, it is to talk about closeness to patients. They are fundamental to our health system". These are the words of Carolina Darias, Minister of Health, at the beginning of a video promoted by Investen-isciii and which was recently broadcast on social networks.
Along with care, teaching and management, research constitutes the four pillars on which the nursing discipline is based. However, it has not been until the incorporation of nursing studies into the European Higher Education Area and the awarding of the Bachelor's degree that our profession has been able to access the second and third cycle of official university studies, allowing for doctoral studies, which is the highest academic level and the highest level of research training in a profession.
