Abstract

Fear, uncertainty, lack of knowledge, lack of resources, disease, suffering, isolation, hospitals overwhelmed, people suffering and dying alone. A global challenge posed by a highly transmissible virus (SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus) that we had never faced before and that has disrupted the lives of the entire world, one of the worst health crises of our time. It is worth reflecting on how to face a pandemic as health professionals, without being afraid of being infected or of infecting our immediate environment (family, friends, colleagues), critical situations, suffering or death. Our profession involves a risk that can sometimes be very costly for our health. In spite of this and in the face of such adverse conditions, healthcare professionals have shown courage, temperance, strength and bravery, being at the forefront of the response to COVID-19. After more than a year of struggle the figures speak for themselves, we have paid a very high price
