Abstract

A few days ago, in a wonderful corner of our geography, I was reflecting with some good friends on the future of Nephrological Nursing. And we were considering several options, all of them in my opinion reasonable. But at this moment, it is hope that guides my words more than logic, as you will notice below. The vision of what our profession will be in the coming years should include this hopeful future. To know the origins of Nephrological Nursing well in order to allow us to advance with a firm step, because those who forget their origins will often have to see how others remind them. We would like to thank all those who have preceded us in the care of renal patients, and have allowed our profession to advance through difficult times. To recognize that the central axis of Nephrological Nursing is not the monitors, pharmacology or technique as isolated entities, but understood to serve an essential end: the integral care of people affected by renal disease and their families. Without forgetting the prophylaxis of the disease and the early detection of the same, avoiding the appearance of coadjutant pathologies that further deteriorate the life and expectations of our patients.
