Abstract
Objective: To determine the prevalence of smoking in dialysis patients, the degree of dependence and the predisposition to quit smoking.
Material and Method: A total of 157 patients were included in peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis. Each patient was enrolled, with data related to their medical history and treatment. The current situation in relation to consumption was identified, and different questionnaires were administered.
Results: The prevalence of ex-smokers was 42.04% and active smokers, 15.28%. Most of them presented moderate daily consumption and a mild degree of dependence in 70.8% of the cases.
Conclusion: More than half of active smokers in our population are motivated and prepared for abandonment, so it is recommended to establish facilitative measures that promote abandonment.
