Abstract
In order to achieve a correct diet in end-stage renal disease (ESRD), it is essential that the patient learns to handle food in order to obtain the necessary nutrients in the right quantity and proportion according to the stage of the disease. Health information on nutritional aspects plays a very important role in patients with CKD, since nutrition has a direct impact on the progress of the disease1. Therefore, the diet of patients with renal failure should be carefully planned, taking into account that the information they receive will affect their health immediately. The most common sources by which patients receive health information are educational materials provided in the hospital as support in consultations, educational materials provided by patient associations, and the Internet. Educational material is a tool used in health education, to facilitate communication between educator and patient. Its purpose is to provide sufficient knowledge to create healthy habits and to make it easier for the patient to assume his or her state of health. The information material has to be in line with the educational objectives of the intervention, and its purpose will be to serve as support for correct nutrition, therapeutic adherence and the observation of correct measures of healthy habits. Within the comprehensive nursing care of patients with TBI, it is necessary to provide the patient with the necessary knowledge about these important aspects of self-care, which are fundamental for the process of evolution of the disease, in order to achieve the participation of the patient and his/her family, which is essential to guarantee dietary compliance2.
